![]() ![]() ![]() You can pretty much ignore the regular volatiles, but now and then they will flip out and attack you, and you should have a shotgun or powerful melee weapon to get rid of them quickly. You might find a spitter or feral instead but you can just do a silent takedown and use its body to camo more. Wander around looking for an arrow with no cone of sight and it will probably be a floorstuck nest volatile. Probably the best advice is that they will show up on your mini-map as an arrow, like the regular volatiles, BUT they won't have a cone of sight around them like the regular volatiles. You need to find one, kill it quickly, use its body to camo, then find the next one. It's pretty obvious but I couldn't figure out how and got overwhelmed when I tried it before. I was really confused when the game threw these nest takedown missions at the beginning of the Following.īasically you just need to kill the nest volatiles which are stuck in the floor. So I've done a few more of these, and now I have a way better idea of how to do them. (I found another one in a military box that did 900 later on but some enemy guys kept throwing grenades around it so I went to deal with them, and when I came back the damn shotgun had disappeared!) My shotgun does like 600 damage which seems enough to deal with volatiles. I think that is really all you can do, just get a good shotgun and a good melee weapon and kill the volatiles ASAP from camo. New ones would spawn in but not quickly enough to overwhelm me. ![]() If several of them rushed me I'd whip out my shotgun and dispatch them. Mainly I just tried to kill all the normal volatiles, by killing them with a few melee hits from camo. I couldn't manage to kill the floor volatiles quickly enough (took me a while to find them all) so instead I killed them when I could while constantly refreshing camo. I think it's the ones stuck in the ground that let them keep spawning, because you'll see the new volatiles crawl through a hole in the floor near them. I finally managed to deal with the "Down the Rabbit Hole" nest, which is one of the worse ones because there literally are like 10 volatiles wandering around, and they keep spawning. Right now if I'm camo'd I can kill one, but if there's like 20 around me and they keep spawning like in some of the nests that's impossible and pointless. I'm just wondering if I should just keep doing other stuff and come back and do this later when I can one-shot volatiles, if there ever is a time when you can do that. Also I can never find bombs-do all the volatile nests have bombs? I did manage to clear one where I did find a bomb, though a volatile spotted me for no apparent reason (while camo'd) and jumped on me and killed me just as the bomb went off, and it still credited me with clearing the nest. I would think maybe I should just try and kill off the volatiles, but there are like 20 of them in some rooms just wandering around constantly spawning. I kill the volatiles in the floor and use them to camo but there are so many damn normal volatiles wandering around in some of the nests that they flip out for no apparent reason and kill me in seconds no matter what I do. (The Image above shows a picture of a Volatile (Night Hunter)).I still don't really get how to do this easily. ![]() Usually, when they are chasing you and other zombies bump them off the edge. This is completely random and shouldn't be happening anyway but it can happen when the Volatiles fall off the edges off buildings. This is more common in Old Town, as the buildings are much higher. This can also be earned if Volatiles kill themselves on accident by falling off of rooftops. Later on in the game you will have very powerful weapons, which can one hit kill Volatiles. You can simply lure a Volatile into that fence and then run into the tower so it cannot hurt you, followed by going out of the safe zone to lure the same volatile into a fence. The tower in the slums has some electric fences by the doorways and enemies cannot enter these areas. Simply lure one into one and it should take most of its health, then you can either finish it off with melee or wait until you can use the fence again. You can however, use the electric fence traps to kill them. Killing them early on in the game is tough as you simply won't have the weapons to do enough damage to them, they can also kill you in one or two hits depending on your health upgrades. A Volatile is a very fast and strong zombie that only appears at night. ![]()
